Brighton, England

The next day was beautiful, sunny and warm. Both of us miss the ocean, so we thought a trip to Brighton would be nice. The English signs are amusing to me, I wish I had thought to take shots of all of them that made me giggle the whole trip, butIi started with this one. I know they mean firetrucks, and using the term "Fire Appliances" instead just struck me as funny.

More beautiful fountains. I love them all.

Brighton is very clean and pretty. This was taken while we walked out onto the pier..

I like piers, but mostly I like them because you can see into the ocean, watch people fish, etc. This pier was a disappointment in that regard, as it was mostly an arcade full of video games and food kiosks. There were a few very mild rides, like a carosel for little kids, and a haunted house...but no one was fishing.

Here is a funny sign and the Hubs. We asked several people what this item is, and no one had ever heard of it before. No way were we going to try them!

We noticed a donut store, and Brad stopped to get a few fresh hot donuts. ... Mmmm! A bag o' donuts!

But someone else wanted them too...

But just when it seemed the donut attack was over.... another one flew in and snagged the rest that the first one didn't get...

This sign isn't really funny at all, but it does show what the beach looks like at Brighton.

It's rocks! no sand, just ouchy rocks that do not lend themselves well to anyone laying on them, or bare feet running on them. The next sign was stenciled onto some stairs, I have no idea what it means!

Here is another one that while I know or at least I think I know what it means, it's just odd!

It was getting close to lunch for us, so we went to the boardwalk. It was beautiful, with lots of super expensive boats in the harbor.

We walked up and down, looking at all of the different restaurants to decide on where to eat.

All of the restaurants in Europe are required by law to post outside their menus for folks to see before they go in. I like that rule. Why waste your time waiting for a table if you don't want to eat there once you see the menu? We picked a lovely seafood restaurant, and we wanted to eat outside as the day was so nice. Holy God, it was hot and bright out there..

Some nice men at the table next to us offered to take our pics.

This was right off the beach..I almost had Brad talked into us shucking our clothes and going for a swim until reality hit me and I realized we had no towels, no shoes that could walk over the horrible rock beach.

It was now late in the day, more people were on the beach than before. We were a little sunburned and tired - time to go.

But first, a little walk in the town. This was such a cute little town, full of quaint buildings like these..

and on one last note...we were close to the town hall when bells rang and people cheered, and a couple walked out from just getting married. A beautiful couple...why can't America shape up and get with the program and recognize that love is love, no matter the gender of the participants???
